Long Life Sensors for the Highest Turbine Temperatures
Gas turbine manufacturers have been searching for high temperature clearance sensors to allow reliable monitoring of turbine condition. Our CapaciSense sensors meet that need.
CapaciSense tip clearance systems have been successfully used worldwide by gas turbine manufacturers to verify the blade tip to frame clearances in prototype engines for many years. The twin requirements here are for fuel efficiency from clearances as small as possible, but no blade rubbing when clearances drop to zero
Pyrotenax previously part of BICC Thermoheat, now part of Tyco Thermal Controls has been developing probes for turbines for more than 10 years. Initially this was based on our background of working with power, aerospace, nuclear, smelting & high pressure applications since the 1960’s. Our work in those areas is shown in more detail on our main site.
As our capacitive clearance sensors will survive in high temperatures to 1400ºC / 2552ºF , even the turbine stages can have their blades condition monitored, an important factor as this means the whole engine can be monitored in real time, not just the lower temperature compressor areas.
