CapaciSense Gas turbine systems now ATEX approved for use in hazardous areas

ATEX hazardous area approval for gas turbine sensors

We recently secured European ATEX approvals for the system and are soon to add North American FM & Asian TIIS Approvals. This means that the systems can now be used in hazardous areas – such as operating power stations.

For those retrofitting turbines with additional condition monitoring sensors that means you are now able to fit them in operating turbines – for use in predictive maintenance or to check blades in “near rubbing” conditions.

Our capacitive blade tip clearance systems are now ready to be used in the hazardous area zones of some of the world’s largest power generating gas turbines for long term condition monitoring.  Our systems are used for high temperature turbine sensing at up to 1400°C.

UPDATE: 2008: In one case, the lifetime of the probes exceeded 10.000 hours of continuous operation.  Probes returned after that time following routine refurbishment at outage are still in working order.
