Gas turbine blade clearance monitoring – even in the turbine

Gas Turbine blade clearance monitoring

Our sensors can be used at extremes of temperature so gas turbine blade clearance monitoring can be carried out even in the highest temperature zones of the turbine.

This means the whole engine can be monitored, not just the lower temperature compressor areas. This raises the possibility of controlling the various stages differentially and optimising the whole turbine rather than just one zone.

Turbine fuel efficiency is directly affected by the size of the clearance, so designers and manufacturers are using the live outputs to adjust clearances to a minimum on working turbines. This provides turbine operators a way to gain greater fuel efficiencies.
